Scribbles Tutorial

» Find a good cartoon image you want to make a scribble out of and copy and paste it in to Paint Shop Pro. I'm using the one below.

» Go to Adjust >> Hue and Saturation >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness and put in the same settings as below. This will make your image lighter so you can see the outlines of the image better.

Click on the thumbnail to see it

» Make sure your layer palette is showing, if it isn't press F8 on your keyboard.
» Go to Layers >> New Raster Layer. Leave the settings as they are and press OK.
» Make sure you have the raster layer you just created selected like below.

» Select the Paint Brush tool () and put in the same settings as below.

» In black (#000000), go around the outline of your image carefully but making it look quite rough. Go around twice to give it a more scribbled look. When you've finished, copy and paste the layer as a new image. You should see the black outline you created on a transparent background.

» Select the Flood Fill tool () and fill in your scribble with colours.

» Next we are going to shade in your scribble. Use a darker shade of the colours you used to go round the outside below the black outline.

» To make your scribble stand out, you can outline it in white. To do this copy your scribble, open up a new image sized big enough and press control and E to paste it as a selection. Then go to Selections >> Modify >> Expand and put 2 in the box. Select the Flood Fill tool () and fill in the selection in white (#FFFFFF).
